The Spirit Release Foundation promotes the understanding of spirit attachment and its effects, and fosters the practice of spirit release.
Death is not an end, but a transition. When people die they enter a different dimension, usually a place of peace and beauty where loved ones are reunited. Whilst retaining aspects of the earthly personality, the spirit gradually progresses and evolves.
Such earthbound spirits are rarely malicious: mostly they are lost and confused. This may manifest in a variety of ways. They may attach to a house or locale with which they were associated in life, so that the house or locale becomes haunted. Such spirits may also be responsible for poltergeist activity, which is their way of drawing attention to their plight.
In some cases an earthbound spirit may attach to a living person. Some of the more common symptoms can be: lack of energy, memory disturbance, behavioural change, mood change, addictive behaviour, relationship problems and hearing disturbing voices. There may be bodily pain and other physical symptoms. The degree of attachment also varies. Some individuals are scarcely affected, while in rare cases the individual's body and mind have been taken over completely.
Spirit release differs from exorcism, which attempts to banish the attached spirit by force. Spirit release takes a gentler approach, seeing the intruding spirit as a being in need of help and understanding.
Although spirit release as practised in the west is not part of any religious doctrine, it does invoke the help of higher spiritual beings.
The SRF (originally The British Association for Spirit Release) was founded in 1999 by a small group of medical and complementary practitioners who felt that the time had come both for a new open approach to spirit release and for the formation of an organisation that would support those working in the field.
The Foundation's objectives are:
The Spirit Release Foundation presents conferences, offers trainings, publishes a newsletter and maintains a website. The Foundation also liaises with other organisations and fosters and supports local groups.
Membership is open to all those interested in spirit attachment and spirit release.
Members are drawn from many different disciplines, including counselling, psychotherapy, psychiatry, transpersonal psychology, hypnotherapy, regression therapy, shamanism, healing, mediumship and channelling.
